LEALAND ON LEALANDSVILLE (Based on Frequently Asked Questions April 2008) |

When did you start the band? |
It's not a band, its me and my home studio project.I play all the instruments and the C sings, certain songs I sing, depends on the song. We did our first batch of songs in 2005 and released the mp3 ep "It's Silent". From the start we were never going to play live as I have always preferred the studio/songwriting part of being a muso, however there was a lot of people that wanted to see us perform live so I put a band together, which included the Partisans rhythm section, and we played a festival in Sweden. The original concept was to be the ultimate in DIY - write and record songs in the bedroom and then have them online immediately. Unfortunately it hasn't been as simple as we could have wished for (that's another story)... |

Why start another band/project when you have the Partisans? |

Logistics, it's difficult to function like a band with the three of us (The Partisans) being here in Sweden and Spike (the singer) living in Cardiff (Wales). Every time we have a gig or a tour there's a load of emails back and forth, working out costs, synchronizing time off work, it's a 'kin pain as we manage ourselves and it's time consuming. We don't even get the chance to have full rehearsals together before touring!!! Lealandsville simply fills in this void and gives me a chance to write and record without the 5 year gaps involved with The Partisans. |

Any live gigs or Vinyl/CD'S Planned (LEALANDSVILLE)? |
We should be a tad more active in the gig deptartment but at the moment we don't have a full set of songs. We would love to have our stuff on Vinyl and we are saving for it at the moment. Hopefully around sept/october 2008 we can release an album. We are working on T-shirts at the moment... Please contact us if you want to order in advance. |

We didn't know you could sing? |

Well it's quite funny as I didn't either. I've always been an awful singer but as I mentioned earlier the Partisans have difficulties having full rehearsals due to Spike living in another country so over the past few years I have sung for him during the rehearsals (Partisans songs), and slowly but surely got better and better at it. When Lealandsville came along the intention was that The C was going to be the vocalist. I did guide vocals for her, but she thought they were good enough and now we share the vocal duties... |

How do you feel about the Clash/Strummer comparisons!!! |
The Partisans later albums were frequently compared to early Clash, so its nothing new...but I don't want to be thought of as Strummer wannabe, or some kind of tribute band to the Clash, that sux and that's sad, The Clash created their own brand of Punk Rock, well thats what I play "Clash style punk rock"....... my voice has similarities to the Strummer machine, ah what the fuck, I do my best not to sing like him, but the music often demands it, I need to develop, don't we fucking all !!. |

Is the rumor that you are millionaire true? |
There are many rumors, most of them are very creative to say the least. No the rumor is I'm a multi millionaire which is why I live in Sweden. Somewhere someone has confused the tax paradise of Switzerland with Sweden. Nobody moves to Sweden if they are rich my dears, it has the highest taxes in the world, the rich move out and the poor move in (lol)... The Partisans reputation far exceeds record sales and we have never made lots of money from the band. If you really want to know I work as a care worker and we (the C and my good self) live in "one room" (Hence the song)the money is lousy, and I'm constantly skint.... so no I'm not a 'kin multi millionaire yet......need to do some serious overtime first.. more weekends.... |

Are you from Wales, Birmingham, Sweden or Mars? |
The Partisans are generally known as a Welsh band but I am actually from Handsworth (Steel Pulse), Birmingham, England. I lived in Wales during my teenage years (moved to Brixton, London at 17). I've lived in Sweden for the last 20 years. I do love living in Sweden though and the Swedish peeps are really great.. The C is a Swede born and bred. |

Have you heard any good bands lately? |
I listen to a hell of alot of the 60's stuff, Stones, Beatles, Kinks, The Who I love all that. I kinda like the Uk scene with the Arctic Monkeys, Babyshambles, The Libertines, Supergrass to my ageing ears it sounds very much like the punk I listend to back in the day. I like Oasis, Liam is a cunt I like that. The C has different taste, she likes Amy Whinehouse, Manu Chao etc, she grew up on The Pretenders, B 52's, Patti Smith and the Go Go's, GIRLY bands like (she loved Ebba Grön back in the day). |
